Plow and Prep Day April 14 in Bixby

The event will take place at 13700 S. Mingo Rd. from 10 a.m. until noon. In case of rain, the date will be changed to Saturday, April 21.

The Plow and Prep day will include live demonstrations, teaching participants how to plow, disk and rototill for vegetable production. It will also be shown that different tractors pull different tillage equipment as well as demonstrating various “walk-behind” implements.

“We’ll also show how to sharpen different types of hoes,” said Sue Gray, Tulsa County Extension horticulturist. “A sharp hoe and a grower’s footprints can keep a garden in great shape.”

Micah Anderson of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry will demonstrate mulch-laying equipment and provide information on the “Plasticulture” program.

“We’ll be installing a ‘Plasticulture’ demonstration planting of specialty melons at the research station,” Gray said. “That way the participants can observe this great growing system throughout the season.”
