Wildlife symposium draws noted speakers
STILLWATER, Okla. –– For those with an interest in quail or other state wildlife and habitat, a two-day symposium in Woodward will provide opportunities to learn from a wide variety of experts.
The Bollenbach Wildlife Symposium, slated for Oct. 18-19,
touts keynote speaker Deborah Clark from the Birdwell-Clark Ranch near Henrietta, Texas.
Clark is known for animated presentations and
speaks from experience with successful habitat practices integrated into a
ranch known for dove hunting.

The popular symposium will include a tour of the Selman Ranch near Buffalo, Okla., and the Cooper Wildlife Management Area near Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Thursday.
The Selman Ranch tour will incorporate active presentations on sand plum research, wildlife related income sources, plant identification, pond management and prairie chicken management.
At Cooper WMA, participants will experience hands-on presentations in prescribed fire, quail management and further plant identification.
Friday’s symposium offerings include morning management sessions on turkey, deer, quail, salt cedar, grazing, food plots and non-game wildlife. The Wildlife Society research session will take place Friday afternoon.
In addition to Clark, featured speakers for the two-day event include Ken Cearly, Texas A&M; Brandon Houck, National Wild Turkey Federation; Fred Guthery, Oklahoma State University Bollenback Chair in Wildlife Ecology; and others from The Noble Foundation, OSU, Sutton Avian Research Center, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Sponsors for the 2007 Bollenback Wildlife Symposium include Quail Forever, Noble Foundation, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Oklahoma Chapter of the Wildlife Society, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and the department of natural resource ecology and management at OSU.
