A sea of orange at the OYE

More than 15 different departments in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, organizations and clubs featured an interactive booth or display for students, parents and alumni.

“The broad goal of the event was expose OSU to all of those at the OYE, but more specifically CASNR,” said Mariette Benage, coordinator, Student Success Center.

Bullet and OSU Spirit Riders, along with steers, Pistol and Pete, were also there for pictures for those who wanted to pose with each of the icons. Pictures were taken by agricultural communications students.

Along with the photo opportunities, there was a wide range of activities at the event, including 4-H pop-rocket building, biosystems and agricultural engineering’s popcorn gun and a steam hydrology trailer. In addition OSU’s Natural Resources and Ecology Management Department had a shooting sports trailer.

Lacey Newlin, high school junior from Burlington, visited OSU Day while she was at the OYE to show her lamb.

“I really enjoyed seeing all the degree options the college has to offer and visiting with current students and faculty about college preparation,” she said. “I plan on attending OSU and majoring in animal science with a pre-vet option.”

Alea Sharp, member of OSU Collegiate 4-H, assisted with their pop-rocket booth.

“Those who participate at our booth make a rocket to shoot at the target. While they are building their rockets with materials such as paper and clay, they are learning about pressure and aerodynamics along with the different angles in which to shoot the rocket for the best flight,” Sharp said.

Most of the visitors who came through OSU at OYE were between the ages of four and 16.

“Having participants in this age group brings a unique opportunity to plant a seed in their minds about coming to OSU and seeing all the neat things that are associated with CASNR,” Benage said.

This is the second year for OSU Day at the OYE.
