Bixby is site for vegetable field day
STILLWATER, Okla. – Anyone interested in vegetable crop production and variety trials should make plans to attend the Oklahoma State University 2008 Bixby Vegetable Field Day.
Slated June 26, the field tour will take place at the OSU
Vegetable Research Station, 13711 S. Mingo Road,
near Bixby. The field tour will begin at 6 p.m.
Food crop research at OSU is an important aspect of helping
farmers stay productive and profitable and helps to maintain safe and
affordable food for everyone, said Lynn Brandenberger, horticulture food crops
Extension specialist at OSU.
“Our main goal for this field day is to showcase what OSU is doing in terms of vegetable research,” Brandenberger said. “This year’s field day will feature cultural work and variety trials including work on cowpeas, sweet corn and tomatoes, as well as weed control work on cowpeas and herbs.”
John Damicone, Extension plant pathologist, will be on hand to share his research in disease control on snap bean and soybean.
Also on hand for the field day will be a number of field crop specialists who will share some of the latest developments in agronomic crops.
“We’re hoping for a big turnout for this year’s Vegetable Field Day,” said Brian Kahn, vegetable research specialist at OSU. “We’ve got something for everyone. It’s a great way to see first-hand what kind of research is happening at OSU.”
